Looks like one of my wishes have come true…again. I say again because this isn’t the first time Class of 1999 has been released on Blu-ray. However, the 3 Blu-rays that have been released for this film have been very subpar. I own the DVDs, VHS, and even a Laserdisc of the film so I know all this because I’m a nut.
This film is my life. If you listen to the show you already know my obsession with it.
I know there is some debate about the “cut” version of the film being released, but Lionsgate has always released the uncut version of the film through the DVD releases. Honestly, there isn’t much difference between the two. Yes, some death scenes have an extra punch but that’s about it. It’s been confirmed that the film will be uncut and is having a transfer from the inter-negative which will make it the best transfer so far for any release of the film.
Here is Lionsgate Official Announcement for the release:
“Lionsgate Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on Blu-ray director Mark L. Lester’s film Class of 1999 (1990), starring Stacy Keach, Malcolm McDowell, Bradley Gregg, Traci Lind, and Patrick Kilpatrick. The release, which will be part of the Vestron Collector’s series, will be available for purchase on January 30.
Synopsis: The time is the future, and youth gang violence is so high that the areas around some schools have become “free fire zones” into which not even the police will venture. When Miles Langford (Malcolm McDowell), the principal of Kennedy High School, decides to take his school back from the gangs, robotics specialist Dr. Robert Forrest (Stacy Keach) provides “tactical education units.” These human-like androids have been programmed to teach and are supplied with weapons to handle discipline problems. These kids will get a lesson in staying alive!
