Disc of the Week: THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD

This week sees the 2nd domestic Blu-ray release of one of the greatest zombie films of all time. Scream Factory has positioned this as one of their biggest titles of the summer and made sure that a double dip was worth it for fans. You not only get the 2 commentaries, 3 featurettes, and trailers from MGM/Fox’s original release, you also get a new 2K transfer from the interpositive, the first home video release of the workprint version of the film, and a myriad of new extras. This release also includes the feature length documentary MORE BRAINS! A RETURN TO THE LIVING DEAD, which was released on a standalone disc back in 2011.

Fulci’s AENIGMA On the Way From 88 Films! SORORITY BABES Also Coming!

UK’s 88 Films made a few surprise announcements on Facebook, using the hashtag #88films_bucketlist, thus continuing its on-going feud with U.S. label, Code Red. The highlight of the batch is another film in their Italian Collection: Lucio Fulci’s AENIGMA. The 1987 feature concerns an outcast boarding school girl who is put into a coma after a prank by her horrible classmates goes wrong. Using telekinesis, the girl possesses a new student to extract her revenge. Image Entertainment issued AENIGMA on DVD in the U.S. all the way back in 2001. If you have a region-free player, picking up 88 Films’ disc may be your best chance to get the film on Blu-ray at the moment.
